With many devices, the patient is the recipient of the therapy, medicine or diagnosis. With some devices though, especially home-based medical devices, the patient is often one of the intended users. As such it is vital to include them in human factors tests, user research activities and post-clinical feedback exercises. THAY Medical can recruit nearly every type of patient in the countries we are able to research and test in. Our internal recruitment team is dedicated to finding the right demographic of patient users, and in an ethical, safe manner.
Our recruitment of patients is thought through in detail and depth. We focus on their safety, and we have a duty of care to look after them throughout the recruitment process, during their involvement and following all activities. Our internal team make it their responsibility to know every patient used in our services, to ensure their safety and to make sure they are the right participant for the activity. We screen all patients, and ensure their complete informed consent for all activities. We have strict internal recruitment policies, and since we are ISO 13485 certified, our Quality Management System demands continuous improvement of our recruitment processes.
For all recruitment of patients, we consider seeking ethical reviews in the countries we are focusing on, to mimic the highest clinical practices. We work with ethics and IRB organisations for when the safety of the patient may be involved, and tailor the research or testing to ensure complete safety of all patients involved. For example, when researching or testing in the USA, we abide by the NiH guidelines, FDA requirements for the protection of subjects, the Declaration of Helsinki and many other regulations and guidelines.
